Occasionally we will sneak-peak the artwork of an XIH scheme scheduled for future release.  There are quite a few schemes yet to come, which will be released in October and thoughout 2011.

In the May/June issue of N Scale Railroading, we placed an advertisement announcing our next model -- the Pennsylvania X58 Boxcar.  It will feature three body variations and two underframe variations so that every prototypical scheme can be replicated accurately on the model.  The model will be equipped with Micro-Trains® 1015 coupler knuckles in a newly-designed extended draft pocket and ride on BLMA 70-ton ASF roller bearing trucks with low-profile metal wheelsets.  It will feature what everyone has come to expect from ESM - etched roofwalk, brake platform, and end platforms; prototype-specific brakewheel; roof grab irons; detailed cushioned underframe; intricate body relief; prototypical trucks; and of course prototypical ride height and body-mounted couplers.  Design work is nearly complete, and tooling is scheduled to begin during the first part of 2011 with a target release date of Christmas 2011.  Many schemes are planned, based on photos of specific cars, and will cover every railroad the prototype generated revenue for - from Pennsy on through to Norfolk Southern.  As a perk to our newsletter subscribers, we will be showing digital mechanical drawings of various elements of the model in future issues, including the innovative method we've developed to simulate the extended draft gear of the cushioned underframe.  Here is a screen shot of the underbody, which features the Hydra-Cushion version of the underframe.

Modelers' Corner

We have been pleased at the response to the debut of the XIH Boxcar last month.  It was a little over a year ago that our first newly-tooled model, the G26 Mill Gondola, was released to strong reviews.  Our favorite was the positive write-up that appeared in the October 2009 issue of Model Railroader.  The Sovereign Modelers Series™ was launched with a weathered and distressed version of the Pennsylvania circle keystone decorated model.  These models are destined to go to work on N scale railroads across the land, and some of them have been modified to look the part!  Send us pics of your weathered G26 gons, and we'll feature the best photos in the ESM Newsletter and on our Facebook page at a future date.  If you missed picking up a G26 gon last year, all five schemes released to date are in stock at ESM.  Order direct, or ask your dealer to place an order.
