The Chinese New Year break and corrections needed on two of the XIH Boxcar paint/print samples have stretched out the schedule.  The corrected samples arrived this week, but production has been pushed back at least six weeks.  Barring any corrections needed in the packaged product review phase, the third run will be released in mid May as opposed to late this month.  The fourth release will follow six weeks afterward.

On The Horizon

Photos of the corrected paint / print samples of the two New Haven repaint XIH Boxcars are featured below.  Item #225603 with the atypical door depicts NH 45068 with a replacement door donated from a Penn Central decorated XIH in the 1970s.  Item #225604 represents NH 45080 with a consolidated stencil from the late Penn Central era.  Note the small patch-out of the build date below the large herald.  The color on both models is lighter than that of the first release, to simulate aged faded paint.  Both models are based on photos of the actual NH 45068 and NH 45080 as they appeared well into the Conrail era -- still in revenue service and with their roofwalks intact.

In Development

Two more XIH Boxcar releases are scheduled for release this year before the X58 boxcar debuts at the end of this year.  As of now, the X58 boxcar remains on schedule.  For those who have subscribed to the ESM Newsletter in recent months, here are some photos of the resin pilot models taken in autumn 2010.  Click on the photos to see larger images.
