ESM Newsletter - June 2011

Product News

Changes, changes, changes.

The third batch of XIH Boxcars is scheduled to reach our warehouse on June 17, and should be in the stores before the end of this month.  Scheduling changes in China, coupled with our desire to keep the X58 as close to schedule as possible, are forcing us to modify the immediate XIH release schedule.  The fourth XIH release will hit the shelves toward the end of September instead of July.  The fifth XIH release, which includes our first holiday car, will be postponed until late summer 2012.  The 2011 holiday car artwork that we showed in the December 2010 issue of the Newsletter will be modified to reflect 2012.  The holiday car series will continue annually from that point forward.

On The Horizon

Here are photos of the remaining cars in the fourth XIH release.

#2252 - Bangor and Aroostook "State of Maine" c.1953 (new numbers)

#2255 - Bangor and Aroostook repaint, c.1975 (new numbers)

#2263 - Canadian Pacific, script herald (new release)

Appearing in the Sovereign Modelers Series™ is a second weathered XIH modified by Tom Mann, this time decorated for Canadian Pacific in the stacked herald scheme as it appeared in the late-Seventies/early-Eighties.  The model features Seventies-era data, and various weathering including rain-washed grafitti and faded ghost lettering to represent the look of a never-repainted thirty-year-old workhorse.  This exquisite piece is available online only.

CP XIH

Also available in the Sovereign Modelers Series™ is a reissue of the weathered XIH decorated for Bangor and Aroostook in the 1950 "State of Maine" scheme.  This encore release features the same outstanding intricate craftsmanship that Tom displayed when this item first appeared in December 2010.  As with the Canadian Pacific XIH, this model is available via the company website only.

In Development

Tool-cutting for the X58 boxcar and the ice-cooled air conditioning bunkers for the MTL Heavyweights finally will commence in July.  The goal is to have the the first X58 release on the water before Chinese New Year 2012, which begins earlier than usual and starts in late January as opposed to mid February.  Progress photos and snippets of sample artwork will be featured in future issues of the Newsletter.
